Health and Hygiene Education Initiative (HHEI) was launched in 2016 at one school in Vietnam. We now have a total of 5 participating schools. HHEI aims to teach students the basics of hand-washing, cleanliness, and health. Another part of this program is to encourage students to help maintain a clean classroom and personal desk area.

A monthly competition has been implemented to recognize the team of students that are able to keep their classrooms, schools, and hands the cleanest. It is a fun way to foster team work and to incentivize these healthy habits. In addition, monthly visits and training are scheduled to ensure consistency.

It is our hope that, with the integration of these personal tools, students are less likely to miss class due to preventable illness. Encouraging students to take ownership in their school facilities will help with the lifespan of the classrooms as well. We facilitate the adaptation of these behaviors by ensuring from here and in the future that our on-site restroom facilities include sinks, soap, and linens for drying hands.

English Initiative (EI)

Launched in 2018, English Initiative (EI) was designed to help our college scholarship recipients in Vietnam improve their English speaking and writing abilities, which are increasingly important skills in today’s professional world. Via video chat, mentors (US-based participants) and mentees (Vietnam-based participants) have weekly conversations about everyday topics: future careers, hobbies, daily lives, etc. Afterwards, mentees write a reflection post about what they learned and what they can improve.

If you are a high school student, college student, or young professional interested in becoming a mentor, contact us!

This program is led by our SEEDS and our SM team in Vietnam.
